Poway makes list of top 10 safest cities in California

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A city in San Diego County has been placed in a list of the top 10 safest cities in California for 2024.

Poway ranked eighth in a list of the safest cities in California compiled by home security research company SafeWise. The city has a population of over 48,000, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

SDPD: San Diego crime rates drop for second year in a row

According to Safewise data, Poway and Santee were two of five cities that reported fewer than 10 violent crimes per 1,000 people. The other three cities were Rancho Santa Margarita, Aliso Viejo, and Lincoln.

Rancho Santa Margarita, Aliso Viejo and Yorba Linda were the top safest cities in California for 2024.

Safewise ranked the cities using FBI crime statistics reported to the agency in each state as well as population thresholds of 300,000 and higher. Rankings are based on both violent (i.e. aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft).
