The Potential Case Against Oscar Pistorius
A bloody cricket bat is at the center of a potential case against Oscar Pistorius in the alleged killing of his girlfriend of four months, Reeva Steenkamp. Initial reports said Pistorius claimed he thought Steenkamp was an intruder when he accidentally shot her. There were some initial cracks in that defense, though. The South African City Press reports the bloody bat found at the scene of the crime is the central piece of evidence in the case right now. There are three potential scenarios they're going over:

City Press can reveal that police are investigating different scenarios involving the bat – one of which is that her boyfriend, Olympic hero Oscar Pistorius, used it to viciously assault her.
The police are also investigating two more possibilities: that Steenkamp may have used the bat in self-defence, or that Pistorius used it to break down the toilet door behind which Steenkamp was hiding from him.
The bat was reportedly found to have "lots of blood" on it, and that Steenkamp's skull was "crushed." Investigators are waiting to hear back from forensic testing to see whose blood is on the bat. Police also reportedly requested Pistorius' blood be tested for potential steroid or other drug use, in anticipation of a potential "roid rage" defense.

The Daily Telegraph reported yesterday, via a report in the local Beeld, that Steenkamp was allegedly shot four times while in the bathroom of their upstairs bedroom. Pistorius called his father and asked him to come to his house. Pistorius was carrying her body downstairs when his father and his sister Aimee arrived, the City Press reports. Neighbors arriving to investigate the gunshots and first responders found Pistorius clutching his girlfriend at the bottom of the stairs and trying to resuscitate her. She was still alive when paramedics arrived, but was pronounced dead shortly after. But before Pistorius called emergency services, the Sun reports he also called a friend of his, Justin Divaris. "My baba, I’ve killed my baba," he reportedly told his friend. Divaris didn't arrive at the house until after paramedics had gotten there.

Pistorius' family are disputing charges that he murdered in Steenkamp in the "strongest terms." Pistorius next court date is on Tuesday -- the same day as her funeral.
