Pot For Engaged Citizens: Terrapin Offers Voter Discount

Behind a cry of, "When the cannabis community votes, we all win," Terrapin Care Station is rallying the troops with a coupon for voters.

BOULDER, CO -- Colorado has a unique, faintly fragrant way to expand the voter rolls this November. Through election day, Boulder-based marijuana retailer Terrapin Care Station will be offering a discount to all customers who bring in proof that they have voted. “No matter where you land on the political spectrum, participation in our nation’s democratic process is more important than ever,” said Chris Woods, founder and owner of Terrapin Care Station in a press release. “Passion is already strong this election cycle, but we wanted to further encourage participation in our elections.

It doesn't hurt that Amendment X on Colorado voters' 2018 ballots seeks to remove the definition of industrial hemp from the Colorado Constitution, a move many industry members and growers say is necessary to keep the state competitive. Woods, however, says the promotion is apolitical: “Political leanings may be polarized, but everyone should agree that at its core election participation is critical to a sound democracy.”

Terrapin is offering a 10 percent discount at its five stores operating in Colorado, with locations in Boulder, Denver and Aurora. Ballots will begin to be mailed to voters on Oct. 15, and the discount is good through election day. To redeem, voters must show proof of voter registration at the point of sale, and the promotion is only available to adults 21 and over.

The promotion is partially in response to reports from this year's June primaries about the importance of the cannabis vote.
