Portsmouth police officer charged with DUI, assault on law enforcement

A Portsmouth police officer has been charged with driving under the influence and assaulting a police officer in connection to an incident Sunday in Hampton.

Officer Carmen Johnson is in a non-law enforcement administrative position while the department conducts an internal investigation, according to a news release from Portsmouth public information officer Elexcia Washington.

Online judicial records show Johnson was also charged with driving with an open container, failing to yield for an emergency vehicle and reckless driving.
