Popular NY shop known for ‘deliciously overstuffed sandwiches’ will open in Raleigh

The New York-North Carolina sandwich pipeline is alive and well.

Next week, a New York-born sandwich shop will open its first Triangle location. Brooklyn Pickle will unveil a new sandwich shop in the Marketplace at Lake Boone shopping center in Raleigh. The grand opening is Monday, May 6.

The Raleigh location of Brooklyn Pickle will be the brand’s sixth and the second in North Carolina, following an opening last year in Southern Pines. The first Brooklyn Pickle opened in Syracuse in 1975, expanding then to Utica and North Carolina.

The Triangle’s Brooklyn Pickle will be owned by Jane and Peter Kim. The company was founded by Ken Sniper and is today owned by Craig Kowadla.

‘On the menu you’ll find deli classics, include pastrami and corned beef, cold cut subs, soups, salads and cheesecakes for dessert. All of the sandwiches start at less than $10.

“Brooklyn Pickle is known for deliciously overstuffed sandwiches and a unique homemade menu which makes it a perfect addition to Raleigh,” Jane Kim said in a release. “When we first tried The Pickle’s food years ago, we were instantly hooked. We had never had their amazing Chicken Riggies before. Their sandwiches are piled high with freshly sliced meats, sliced so thin that each bite is indescribably tender. Having known Craig for many years, we knew this would be an excellent partnership.”

Kim references the Brooklyn Pickle’s Thursday special of rigatoni pasta with chicken and peppers.

The Southern Pines location was the Brooklyn Pickle’s first to offer alcohol. Currently there isn’t an ABC permit on file for the new Raleigh location.

Doors open at the Brooklyn Pickle at 10 a.m. Monday. The first customer in the door will get a $50 gift card and the first 20 will get a free T-shirt.
