Popular National City coffee and burrito spot to close

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A popular coffee and burrito spot will be packing up its National City storefront this summer.

Mujer Divina Burrito & Coffee House announced the closure in a post to Instagram Thursday, saying the decision was made in the course of negotiations for the space it leases on 8th Street.

“… unfortunately we decided we won’t be leasing the National City space due to landlord increase of 20% plus $1000.00 a month more. It’s unfortunate that these situations happen to small business when they see them striving,” the owners of Mujer Divina wrote in the post.

“It was (a) beautiful four years here in National City but this is not the end,” they continued. “We will be here until the end of summer 2024. We will keep working hard at our new Chula Vista location and (Mujer Divina Brunch) coming soon.”

Mujer Divina opened its doors in 2020 after acclaimed South Bay chef Priscilla Curiel remodeled her café that previously resided in the 8th Street storefront, Naturale Deli.

Curiel also owns the Michelin-recognized eatery, Tuetano Taqueria. The Mexican food hotspot temporarily closed its doors to move up the Interstate 5 from San Ysidro to Chula Vista, where it will be housed next to the other Mujer Divina Burrito & Coffee location.

Mujer Divina Burrito & Coffee House is known for its eats like the Papa con Chorizo Burrito and Machaca Ranchera Burrito, as well as its eccentric coffee beverages like the Betty White Latte and Cajeta Latte.

Hours at the Chula Vista location, which opened earlier this year at 218 Third Avenue, run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, as well as 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
