Popular fan event Super Bowl Experience taking shape in downtown Phoenix

It might have seemed a long way from being finished Monday afternoon, but by Saturday morning, the North Building of the Phoenix Convention Center will become the Super Bowl Experience presented by Lowe's.

It will be teeming with locals, and eventually thousands of football fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles this coming weekend and all of next week.

Super Bowl Experience exhibits include the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which goes to the Super Bowl winning team, Super Bowl rings and an autograph stage. NFL Senior Director of Events Nikki Ewell said Cardinals Pro Bowl safety Budda Baker is among the players scheduled to appear for autograph signing, which is included with the price of a ticket.

It's $20 for adults this weekend and kids age 12 and under get in free. Ewell urges Phoenix area locals to come out Saturday and Sunday to avoid the bigger crowds that will come from out-of-town fans.

The list of players who'll sign autographs will be updated one the NFL's OnePass app, as players individually commit to making an appearance.

Popular family activities at Super Bowl Experience include the Play 60 turf field for kids, where fans ages 6 to 14 can participate in a clinic and run the 40-yard dash against digital imagery of NFL star running backs Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry.

The NFL Shop presented by VISA is a large area full of Super Bowl merchandise, on the lower level the building.

"We really wanted to take advantage of this beautiful convention center. It's the perfect amount of space for us to build out, lay all of our carpet, put all of our theatrical lighting in and really celebrate downtown Phoenix, which obviously in the last eight years since we've been here has really grown into this vibrant city," Ewell said. "And Scottsdale and Tempe and all the surrounding areas of the Valley have really come to life."
