Popular chicken chain among MS Coast restaurants failing latest health inspection
Three restaurants in South Mississippi scored a failing C on their health inspections since May 11 for having no certified manager to oversee kitchen safety or for other violations.
Restaurant owners in Mississippi must provide a copy of the food safety manager’s certificate, showing they received the necessary training.
The restaurants cited are:
Church’s Chicken at 2321 Pass Road, Gulfport, had a corrective follow-up inspection May 16. It was cited for:
▪ No certified manager
▪ Food not separated and protected
▪ Plumbing not installed with proper backflow devices
This is the sixth C at the restaurant since 2020.
5 Stars Fast Mart, 11617 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport was inspected May 14 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:
▪ No certified manager
▪ No person present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty
Corrected during the inspection were:
▪ Adequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible
▪ Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized
This was the first C dating back to 2022.
Big Daddy’s Soul Food to Go at 2605 25th Ave., Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection May 17. It was cited for:
▪ Improper cold holding temperatures
A corrective follow-up inspection held May 18 showed the violation corrected and the restaurant received a B.
This is the second C since 2021.
Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.
Most restaurants, kitchens and food trucks inspected since May 1 in South Mississippi had no violations, with 169 scoring an A, 38 a B and 8 a C.
