Pond Skim returns to Winterplace

GHENT, WV (WVNS) — Seventy-five hopeful skiers and snowboarders signed up for the chance to race down the mountain and skip across Winterplace’s manmade pond.

The event returns to Winterplace after a decade long hiatus which could have prompted the massive amount of people who signed up.

“We’re pretty excited. I mean, beautiful bluebird day. It’s probably a little too warm, it’s in the sixties, but I’m super excited. You know, Snowmelt Fest is going great,” said Josh Faber, General Manager of Winterplace.

The Pond Skim event allows racers to build up momentum from the top of a trail and attempt to slide over the surface of the pond onto the other side.

Several hopefuls made it successfully, while others took a rather chilly looking swim.

“So I think it’s gonna be a huge turnout and it’s gonna be a great show for the spectators and that’s the best part,” said Faber.

Whether dressed in costume, or hardly wearing anything at all, the racers fulfilled Faber’s wish for a great show.
