Poll: Strong support for constitutional amendment raising New Jersey's minimum wage by $1
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- A new poll finds strong support for a constitutional amendment to raise New Jersey's minimum wage by $1 to $8.25 and link it to automatic annual adjustments to the Consumer Price Index.
The Rutgers-Eagleton Poll out Tuesday shows 76 percent of registered voters surveyed back the proposal, while 20 percent oppose it. The amendment receives majority support from all demographic groups except conservatives, who are split at 47 percent.
The proposed amendment will be on the November ballot.
Gov. Chris Christie vetoed legislation in January that would have increased the wage by $1.25, to $8.50 per hour, and provided for automatic yearly increases.
The survey of 819 registered voters was conducted from April 3-7. It has a sampling error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
