Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (March 10)

Miami-Dade County’s best brought home state championships in basketball and delivered early season highlights in spring sports last week.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, March 14, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Cameron Boozer, Columbus, boys basketball: Boozer finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists including the game-tying, season-saving dunk in regulation as the Explorers rallied to beat Orlando Oak Ridge in the Class 7A state championship game. Boozer also had 29 points and 15 rebounds in the state semifinal win over Orlando Evans as Columbus went on to win its third consecutive state title.

Triston Wilson, Norland, boys basketball: Wilson scored 21 points and had seven rebounds in the Class 5A state final to lead the Vikings to their seventh state championship overall and first since 2015. He also had 23 points and seven rebounds in the state semifinals.

Dylan Quinzada, Coral Reef, baseball: Quinzada pitched eight shutout innings, striking out five to lead the Barracudas to a 1-0 win over Terra.

Lazaro Collera, Westminster Christian, baseball: Collera struck out 10 over 6.1 innings to lead the Warriors to a 6-1 win over Columbus.

Kathleen Serig, Gulliver, girls water polo: Serig totaled 16 goals, 10 assists and six steals in wins over Miami Country Day, MAST, West Orange and Ransom Everglades.
