Political news: 2 Democratic clubs and a Republican club meet this week in Polk County

Lake Ashton Democratic Club

The Lake Ashton Democratic Club meets at 4:30 p.m. Thursday via Zoom and in-person at the HFC. Social time with snacks is from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Please bring your own beverage.

The August speaker is Suzanne Lindsey from Polk Forever, the Political Action Committee that was formed to work for passage of the new environmental lands funding referendum on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Faith Based Republican Club

The Faith Based Republican Club of West Polk is sponsoring a Florida State Representative District 50 Forum with candidates Jennifer Canady and Phillip Walker, both Republicans, during its Thursday meeting at Believers' Fellowship Church, 5240 N. Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. Other Republican candidates are encouraged to attend.

The moderator for the forum is Pastor Jon Friedt of Believers' Fellowship.

Lakeland Democratic Club

Lakeland Democratic Club meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, both in person and through Zoom. Guest speaker is Cesar Ramirez, candidate for U.S. House Florida District 15. Meetings are held at UFCW Local 1625 Union Hall, 5600 U.S. 98 N., Lakeland. Zoom link can be found on lakelanddems.com.
