GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KREX) — Gov. Jared Polis made several stops along the Western Slope, signing bills.

Polis started in Gypsum, signing H.B. 24-1135, a bill that moves offenses related to operating a commercial vehicle from infractions to misdemeanors, and S.B. 24-100, a bill that expands the Colorado Department of Transportation’s enforcement area and ability to enforce speeding in Glenwood Canyon.

Polis then traveled to New Castle to sign bills related to wildfires.

“The first bill will help Colorado fire districts and nonprofits pull down more funds from the federal government around fire mitigation. The second bill will support helping to educate people who live in the wild and urban interface with outreach around best practices to protect their home and community.”

In Glenwood Springs, Polis talked with WesternSlopeNow about a new project that would relieve congestion and allow residents to escape fires on the west end of town.

“We’re in Glenwood talking about this new bridge right here by the airport which will improve access to the area, help reduce congestion.”

From Glenwood, Polis traveled to Paonia to sign H.B. 24-1436, a sports betting tax revenue bill. He also signed S.B. 24-126, a bill that increases the limit on conservation easement income tax credits in one calendar year and allows transfers of conservation easement credits.

Polis finished his day signing S.B. 24-171, a bill that calls for the restoration of wolverines in Colorado.
