Police: Wyoming bank branch robbed for 2nd time in 2 weeks

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a man has been arrested and the money has been recovered after a Wyoming bank branch was robbed.

Officers responded around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday to the Fifth Third Bank on Michael Avenue SW at 28th Street, according to the Wyoming Police Department.

Police say the suspect entered the bank, demanded money from a teller and implied he had a weapon. After getting “an undisclosed amount of cash,” the suspect left, according to the police department.

Employees then described the suspect to police. “Within minutes of the crime,” the Wyoming Police Department says a Grand Rapids police officer found a person matching the description near 28th Street and Buchanan Avenue SW.

The 59-year-old man was taken into custody, and officers found proceeds of the robbery in his possession, according to the police department. The man, whose name was not released Tuesday, was jailed.

Man arrested after Wyoming bank branch robbed

Police say this marks the second robbery at the same bank branch — and subsequent arrest — within the past two weeks: A 65-year-old man was arrested March 22 after allegedly taking cash.

Wyoming police and the FBI are investigating both cases. Banks are federally insured, so bank robberies are federal cases.
