Police: Wrong-way driver causes serious crash in Commerce City

DENVER (KDVR) — The Commerce City Police Department said a serious crash that sent two people to the hospital Saturday appeared to be the result of a wrong-way driver.

The crash happened near 72nd Avenue and Quebec Street. Quebec Street was still closed as of 7:35 p.m.

Both vehicles had a sole occupant. Police said the driver of the SUV that allegedly caused the crash was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, and the driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area as debris is all over the roadway and an “extensive investigation” is underway.

Around 550 employees across autonomous vehicle company Motional have been laid off, according to information taken from WARN notice filings and sources at the company. Earlier this week, TechCrunch reported that Motional is pausing commercial operations and delaying plans to launch a robotaxi service with its next-gen Hyundai Ioniq 5 robotaxis until 2026 as it undergoes restructuring.
