Police say Wamego tulips torn out by children

WAMEGO (KSNT) – The Tulip Festival in Wamego is off to a rocky start after some local children allegedly tore out several plants, throwing them into a nearby fountain.

The Wamego Police Department took to social media Saturday morning to inform locals of a criminal damage investigation at the city park. City Park Department staff found around 50-75 tulip plants were damaged with many of them being tossed into the park’s fountain.

While staff worked to remove the plants from the fountain, police looked into who might be responsible. Two children, ages 10 and 11, were brought to police by their parents during the investigation.

“After the minors and their parents were interviewed, the City of Wamego elected not to pursue criminal charges.

It was suggested after the Tulip Festival, the minors, under supervision, help clean the park by picking up trash.”
