Police trying to ID man who stole cash boxes from gas station

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Police in Monroe County are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who allegedly stole two cash boxes from a gas station.

On Sunday around 5:30 a.m., officers say a man entered the Sunoco gas station at 1550 North 9th Street, Stroudsburg, and asked the clerk to open the outside bathrooms for him.

When the clerk went to open the bathroom, he told investigators he realized the man was still in the store. After returning to the store, he told officers he found the male pictured above behind the counter with two cash boxes.

According to the release, the man fled the store and was last seen running away on North 9th Street.

Authorities have not indicated how much money the alleged thief got away with.
