Police: Toddler who died in freezing weather wandered outside while her father was asleep

Heartbreaking new details have come to light in the case of a 2-year-old girl who died after being found outside of her Ohio home in frigid temperatures by her mother.

The victim, identified by the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office as Wynter Parker, was found "frozen" on her family's front porch in Akron, Ohio, on Friday afternoon.

Paramedics rushed the unresponsive child to Akron Children's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The Akron Police Department said that Wynter's mother had left her with her father while she ran errands. The father, who works nights, apparently fell asleep while watching his young daughter.

WJW reports that Wynter wandered outside of the house while not wearing a hat, coat or gloves and suffered severe hypothermia, although her official cause of death has not been determined.

The child's mother returned to find her daughter on the porch of their apartment at around 3:30 p.m., which is when she called the police.

No charges have yet been filed over the incident.

"Obviously, this is still under investigation to see if there is any wrongdoing on behalf of the parents," Lieutenant Rick Edwards said.
