Police: Ticonderoga man had large quantity of drugs

Mar. 7—TICONDEROGA — Authorities in Ticonderoga seized a significant amount of drugs Monday during a search of a home at The Portage and Alexandria Avenue.

The home visit to Timothy E. Welch, age 39, of 64 The Portage, by parole officers with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision allegedly uncovered more than 430 grams of fentanyl and more than 220 grams of methamphetamine, police said.

Welch was arrested by Ticonderoga Town Police for felony first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Welch was arraigned in Ticonderoga Town Justice Court and sent to the Essex County Jail without bail.

Two people who were in Welch's home, Sadie E. Thompson and Robert Lapointe, both of Ticonderoga, were arrested for misdemeanor seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance and released with appearance tickets for Town Court, police said.

Further charges for all are pending, police said.

The case was investigated by Ticonderoga Town Police, New York State Police, the Essex County Sheriff's Department and the State Division of Parole.
