Suspect in Friday morning shooting not in westside home

UPDATE: Law enforcement confirms that Marcus Oglesby, 31, the suspect in a shooting Friday morning was not in a home on Drexel Ave. in Lansing. Law enforcement spent hours surrounding the home after discovering a Jeep Patriot tied to the incident. They deployed some sort of projectiles that produced gas into the windows of the home.

Lt. Rene Gonzalez of the Michigan State Police tells 6 News law enforcement will continue the search for Oglesby, who was being sought by the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Absconder Unit, will continue through the night.

Oglesby is considered ‘armed and dangerous.’

UPDATE: 6 News can confirm the vehicle law enforcement had been seeking in connection with Friday morning’s shooting incident in Delta Township is at the property currently surrounded by law enforcement.

The vehicle is a black Jeep Patriot with a Michigan plate ERA 9231 and a bumper sticker that reads, “Trust me you don’t want to be this close.”

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Law enforcement has surrounded a home in the 1800 block of Drexel Rd. on the city’s westside.

6 News has confirmed the presence is connected to a shooting that occurred Friday morning in Delta Township.

A 6 News team on scene heard law enforcement notify Marcus Oglesby they know he is in the home currently surrounded.

Oglesby has been the subject of a day long search after police said he open fire on officers from the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Michigan State Police Lt. Rene Gonzalez said Friday morning members of the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Absconder Unit were in an unmarked vehicle watching a suspect who was a passenger in a different vehicle on the 1700 block of Waverly near Saginaw.

State police said the suspect is Oglesby, 31, from Jackson. He is described as being 6’1″ and 135 lbs.

Gonzales said the officers began following the suspect on Waverly when that vehicle stopped and the suspect got out and fired shots at the unmarked vehicle. The vehicle was hit but no person was injured. Officers did return fire and it’s not known if anything or anyone was hit.

The suspect got back into the vehicle and was chased by officers to the parking lot of a plaza at the corner of Saginaw and Waverly. This is when the suspect got out and ran. The driver of the vehicle the suspect was in also left the scene, according to police.
