The police say they seized some 12 kilograms of suspected fentanyl, 87 marijuana plants and two semi-automatic handguns Thursday in Woonsocket.

The seizures came after the Woonsocket Police Department's narcotics unit, with the help of a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration task force, executed search warrants at 144 Mason St. and 436 South Main St., second floor, the Woonsocket police said in a news release.

The police said they also arrested two men, ages 44 and 29, after stopping a car that had left the Mason Street property. The two face charges of possessing, manufacturing and selling fentanyl and marijuana, as well carrying dangerous weapons, the police said.

According to the police, the suspected fentanyl was in several different forms – six to seven kilograms in wax paper bundles, 600 grams of powder and 7,000 to 10,000 pills. A pill press and other material used to manufacture illegal narcotics were also seized, the police said.

The marijuana, all mature plants, was seized from two rooms at 144 Mason St.

"The fentanyl issue is a significant problem locally and nationally," said Woonsocket Public Safety Director Eugene Jalette. "The Woonsocket Police Department is committed with its federal, state and local partners to hold those responsible for trafficking this dangerous drug and hopefully prevent any other senseless deaths."
