Wilfred McCray said Wednesday that a family vacation in Arizona was instantly ruined when he saw a woman on his Daytona Beach home's ring camera stealing the family dog from his property.

"It's just a messed up situation," McCray said in a telephone conversation. "We are on vacation in Arizona and we can't even enjoy it because Twinkie is all we are thinking about."

Daytona Beach police said Twinkie, a Chihuahua-Greyhound mix, was taken from the Sand Trap Court home around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

McCray said the dog is around 14 years old and was being watched by family while they were on vacation.

Police said the dog got out of the yard and a woman, wearing a reflective vest that said "Inspector" on it, was seen on camera running after the dog.

In the missing dog report, police said the woman appeared determined to get the dog and ran after her until she caught her.

McCray said the suspected dog thief had not been seen in the neighborhood before.

She was driving a truck that had signs on the back that said "frequent stops," according to the police report.

McCray said the loss of Twinkie has devastated his family, especially his wife and children. His 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter are in tears because their pet was stolen, he said.

Twinkie also has a brother, another Chihuahua named Buster, 14, who is blind and misses her company, McCray said.

"I just want to tell the lady who took her to please return our dog, to just drop it where she took her," McCray said. "She is a loving dog. She has a brother that's blind and loves her, and please, she needs her family."

Anyone with information on the missing dog is asked to call Daytona Beach police Detective Hailey Hayes at 386-671-5228.
