2 suspects in custody after search in Castle Rock neighborhood

DENVER (KDVR) — Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two suspects who were believed to be armed near a Castle Rock subdivision on Tuesday.

The pair, a juvenile male and a man, were arrested on counts of burglary, eluding and motor vehicle theft but could face more.

The sheriff’s office first reported the matter as a large police presence near the Waverton Ranch property, north of the Meadows subdivision and west of Highway 85.

Deputies, along with Castle Rock Police Department officers, were looking for two suspects who allegedly ran from a stolen blue Ford F-250 in the area.

Deputies reported they were responding to a business alarm at Sedalia Liquors, 5587 N. Highway 85 when they saw the Ford leave the Conoco at Happy Canyon Road and Highway 85 at a “high rate of speed,” and failed to stop when deputies attempted a traffic stop.

The driver then continued into the Meadows subdivision, according to the sheriff’s office. The officers confirmed the vehicle was stolen out of Denver after finding it still running. A gun was found on the ground next to the vehicle, and deputies also found tracks leading toward buildings on the Waverton Ranch property.

Deputies set up a perimeter, issued a Code Red emergency notification for the area, and a drone was put up. The suspects were found near some outbuildings. Around 7:30 a.m., two suspects were taken into custody.

The agency alleges the suspects are connected to burglaries at Sedalia Liqours and the Conoco, and that one suspect was armed with a gun during these offenses.

This is still an open investigation and more information may become available at a later date.
