I was an educator in a high school for 35 years. Over that time, I say kids becoming more and more unhappy and angry. When I started out in the mid 1970's, half of all children lived with both biological parents. By the time I retired, it was down to only 1 in 4. Certainly, this is only one small piece of a very complicated problem involving today's kids. They have all this technology at their fingertips and 300 channels to watch on TV and yet they are so unhappy and angry. I don't understand why they have so much anger and unhappiness.
Asked one of the girls on track team to the first dance of the year in front of her bff's back in '77, she said no and that was that. Her BFF said she would go with me instead. Her family had a home on the hamptons, got to spend the summers out there but we went to different schools after graduation.
Sometimes no is a good thing.
Anyone remember being that age. When the girl I liked said NO. To me it was like life was over, depression set in. At that age I didnt understand that life co ti ues and aomething better would come along. It was a hard life lesson. Maybe we should teach kids about rejection and difficulties of life.
look at how we treat each other as adults. why is any one shocked that this type of stuff happens?
Kid told them why he did it and they are still searching?
The response to a fire alarm and an active shooter are very different. Active shooter response is either "run, hide, or fight". While those not in proximity to the shooter SHOULD run, those who run while in proximity to a shooter may find themselves in worse danger than had they hid or began to fight back. It may be time to come up with a national standard for a building alarm to indicate an active shooter, particularly considering what appears to be an increasing frequency of these events.
I remember the first time a girl turned me down. I was crushed. I felt hopeless. I went home a played Atari to forget about my sorrow. I got high score on Asteroids that night. The next day I was so happy, I told her I got high score! I don't even remember her name now, but I remember I got high score on my game! Girls come and go... gotta learn to take rejection.
A boy wearing a trench coat in southern Texas in mid May, that should have been a red flag right there.
Children are raised to think they can "have it all." Eventually, reality sets in...
Mr. Know It All
"what we have learned from media reports seems incompatible with the boy we love," In my family, during dinner, we have everyone turn their their cell phone off, and really talk and listen to each other.
No one noticed any "red flags". I spent over 25 years in retail management. ANY customer that would have walked into my store with a trench coat on in 90* plus weather.......would have been an IMMEDIATE red flag to me. Nothing says big time trouble than a trench coat in scorching temps......
30 years ago we had 9 hours of unsupervised play...now it is 9 hours of cell phones, video games, IPads, and computers...
