Police search for hit-and-run suspect after bicyclist killed in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A bicyclist that was critically injured during a hit-and-run collision in Oceanside last weekend has died, authorities said.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, the rider passed away this week while receiving medical treatment for their injuries. The victim’s identity has not been released.

The incident took place near the intersection of State Route 76 and Singh Way around 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, March 17. Officers found a bicycle with major damage about two miles down the road from where the pedestrian was found.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene. OPD described the car as a silver 2013–2015 Kia Optima. It’s believed by authorities that the driver of this vehicle lives in the neighborhood where this collision took place.

“This vehicle will have damage to the right front bumper, missing parts to the engine under cover, and the right headlight,” OPD explained further.
