Three children, adult shot in Covington neighborhood, police say

Police and medical personnel responded to a neighborhood in Covington Monday evening after reports of a shooting and found four victims, including three who were juveniles.

Covington police said in a news release that officers and fire units were called at 6:45 p.m. to the 200 block of West 17th Street after calls to dispatch about a shooting. Officers located four gunshot victims in the 1600 block of Russell Street.

Officers remained on scene in the tightly packed neighborhood for several hours. As of 9:10 p.m., police still had West 17th Street taped off.

The juvenile victims ranged in age from 7 to 14 years old, police said. Each shooting victim was transported to area hospitals, the news release said. Their conditions were not yet available as of 9:45 p.m Monday.

"Investigation thus far is that the shooting stemmed from a large fight involving numerous juveniles," Covington police said. "No further information will be released at this time. "

Patrol units, criminal investigators and crime lab personnel were at the scene in an attempt to gather further information and evidence, the release

Police have yet to release any information about a suspect.
