Three hurt in I-470 west Topeka Crash

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Three people were hurt following a crash on I-470 in west Topeka on Friday. This was near southwest 21st Street in Topeka.

According to KHP crash logs, two females, 15 and 22, were taken to a hospital for serious injuries.

According to the crash logs, the vehicle driven by the 15-year-old was traveling east on I-470. Then, for an unknown reason, the car drove off the road into the westbound lanes. The vehicle then hit the vehicle driven by the 22-year-old. The collision caused both cars to crash into a third vehicle that went off the highway. The driver of the third vehicle, a 32-year-old woman, only suffered minor injuries.

Shawnee County Emergency Dispatch confirmed first responders were notified of a crash at 3:08 p.m. on Jan. 26 for a crash just south of I-470 and Southwest 21st Street in Topeka.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka said in a press release that officers with the Topeka Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol along with the Topeka Fire Department were at the scene of the crash. Westbound I-470 was closed at this time at SW 29th Street and Fairlawn Road. Eastbound I-470 was taken down to one lane from the SW 21st Street and SW 29th Street exits.

Nichols said the crash scene was cleared as of 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 26.
