GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) — Police say children playing outside an apartment complex have found the cellphone of an Oregon woman who vanished three days ago under suspicious circumstances.

Gresham Police said Friday it contained text messages asking 21-year-old Whitney Heichel (HY'-kel) where she was and if she was OK. Police didn't say who sent them or whether there was a response.

The childrens' family notified the police Thursday evening about the phone.

Lt. Claudio Grandjean says it was in a field near a network of trails about four miles north of Heichel's home and nearly three miles southeast of the parking lot where her SUV was found.

Grandjean says the phone will be examined Friday for clues about what happened to Heichel after she failed to show up for work Tuesday morning.
