More: Martinsville High School investigating code of conduct allegations

"The Martinsville Police Department is currently working with the MSD of Martinsville to investigate allegations regarding the victimization of some students of Martinsville High School," John Richards, police chief, said in the statement.

In the original statement provided by Martinsville spokesperson Jayne Burke Friday, it was announced that the school, who notified the police department of the allegations, would initially take control of the investigation.

"If at any point this matter appears criminal in nature, the Martinsville City Police will take a more active role," Burke said.

With alleged victims coming forward, the school has since allowed the police to begin a full investigation.

"As the school was investigating the claims, alleged victims began coming forward," Richards said. "A full investigation is currently underway and is being led by the Martinsville Police Department Detective Division."

"At this time the extent of the victimization is unknown, but all allegations are being fully investigated," he said.

Anyone who may have information about incidents of victimization are being directed to contact the Martinsville Police Department at (765) 349-4900.
