Police say man from Lethbridge, Alta., wanted to disappear, set up hoax

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Police say a southern Alberta man's disappearance last week was a hoax.

They say Matthew Robillard of Lethbridge took off for two days and made it look like he had disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

Police say the man's family was not part of the scheme and honestly believed he was missing.

Relatives called police Thursday when the 25-year-old failed to show up for work at a bank and his car was found in Calgary with a smashed window.

Officers found him Saturday in a Calgary hotel room.

Police won't comment on why Robillard wanted to disappear but are investigating a possible charge of public mischief.
