Police say Lewiston woman was killed in Auburn motorcycle crash

May 25—AUBURN — A Lewiston woman was killed Friday night when she attempted to avoid a collision on her motorcycle on South Main Street, according to a Saturday evening police press release.

Jessica Carter, 40, of Lewiston was operating her 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle on South Main Street in Auburn Friday around 5:32 p.m. when she struck the driver's side of a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle operated by a 15-year-old female with a learner's permit.

The Beetle's operator, accompanied by her mother, was struggling with the vehicle's manual transmission as she attempted to pull out from Witham Road onto South Main Street, the release said.

Carter swerved, but was unable to avoid the collision.

Witnesses attempted CPR on Carter, but Carter was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders arrived. Carter was wearing a helmet, the release said.

The Beetle's occupants were not seriously injured.

South Main Street and Witham Road were closed for several hours for crash reconstruction.

Auburn Police Department continues to investigate.
