Police: 1 killed, 2 wounded in shooting on Route 15 in Hamden

One man was killed and two men were wounded in a shooting early on New Year’s Day on Route 15 in Hamden, police said.

State troopers responded about 2:23 a.m. Sunday to a report of two or more people suffering from gunshot wounds in a vehicle near exit 60, according to Connecticut State Police.

Troopers found Adrian Lopez, 23, of Bridgeport, shot in the driver’s seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Three other men, all from Bridgeport, were in the vehicle and were rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital by ambulance, police said.

Qualon Wilkes, 22, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

Taquan Donald, 20, suffered injuries that weren’t believed to be life threatening and his condition had been stabilized as of about 2 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Another man, Mark Dunbar, 25, was also in the vehicle but was not injured, police said.

The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat to the public, police said.

The Central District Major Crime Squad was investigating the incident and the New Haven State’s Attorney was notified of the shooting, police said.

North and southbound lanes of Route 15 from Exit 60 to Exit 59 remained closed as of Sunday afternoon as the investigation continued.
