Police investigating after woman stabbed to death in Old Louisville retirement home

A woman is dead after suffering from stab wounds in an incident at an Old Louisville retirement community on Wednesday morning, Louisville Metro Police said in a statement.

At around 5:10 a.m., Fourth Division officers responded to a call about a "trouble run" inside an apartment at the 900 block of South Fourth Street at the Friendship House, LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis said. Upon arrival, officers found a woman, who was later pronounced the woman dead, Ellis said.

LMPD's homicide unit is investigating the incident. There are currently no known suspects.

In a statement, Christian Care Communities President & CEO Mary Lynn Spalding said she has visited the center and is currently working with residents and staff to address their concerns.

“This incident is an unspeakable loss and our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased," she said. "For 140 years, Christian Care has served seniors in Louisville and we ask everyone to join us in prayer as we support our community through this tragedy.”

The Friendship House is a retirement community in Old Louisville for those 62+ and is described as a "warm and welcoming" community, according to the organization's website. Founded in 1884, the faith-based nonprofit serves around 5,000 older adults annually through independent living, long-term care and outpatient rehabilitation services.
