Police investigating Northwest Austin fatal shooting with 'large crime scene'

Detectives are investigating a Northwest Austin shooting in which one man died and another was injured in what police called "a large crime scene."

About 6 p.m. Monday, police responded to reports of a shooting and stabbing in progress in the 11100 block of Research Boulevard, senior officer Wesley Belcher said at a press conference Monday night. Police found a deceased man and another man with life-threatening injuries, who was taken to a hospital. Several bullet casings were found at the scene. Belcher said he was unsure of the relationship between the two men.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the crimes began at an apartment complex east of Research Boulevard and migrated across U.S. 183 to the southbound lanes of Research Boulevard, near the intersection with Balcones Woods Drive.

Police interviewed several witnesses and have determined it was an isolated incident, with no threat to the public, Belcher said.

He did not indicate whether police had made any arrests or identified a gunman in connection with the shooting.

Those with information about the shooting can call the department's tip line, 512-974-TIPS, or submit it anonymously via Capital Area Crime Stoppers at austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477.
