Police say suspect in custody after deadly downtown Lawrence shooting

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Lawrence Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting Wednesday evening.

The shooting was reported around 5:10 p.m. in the area of W. 8th Street and Vermont Street in downtown Lawrence.

Police have confirmed one person is dead. No identity has been released at this time.

Police released a photo of a suspect in the incident identified as Nicholas Beaver. Police said he was taken into custody just after 10 p.m.

Anyone with information is being asked to call 911.

This incident comes less than 24 hours following another deadly shooting in Lawrence.

Police said 18-year-old Davin Gregory Kerr was shot around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood on Crestline Drive, near Crestline Circle.

Kerr died at a Kansas City trauma center Wednesday morning.

Police are asking for help in finding Dawson Edward Paine, who is suspected of killing Kerr.

Paine is considered armed and dangerous, and no one should try to approach or contact him other than law enforcement.
