Police investigating armed robbery at Wilkes-Barre convenience store Thursday

Apr. 1—Wilkes-Barre police are investigating an armed robbery at the Turkey Hill Minit Market on Carey Avenue early Thursday morning.

Officers responded to a reported robbery at the store at 6:57 a.m. Thursday, Wilkes-Barre police said in a post to the department's Facebook page.

A store clerk told officers that a black male wearing a red jacket and black pants came around the counter, brandished a gun and demanded money out of the cash register, police said.

The clerk gave the man money from the register, after which the suspect tried unsuccessfully to open the store's safe, police said. The suspect then fled from the store.

Detectives are investigating, police said.
