Police investigating armed robbery of Urbana business

Apr. 26—URBANA — Urbana police are investigating an armed robbery that took place in the north side of the city Friday afternoon.

A man wearing a mask and dark clothing entered a business in the 1500 block of North Cunningham in Urbana around 2:37 p.m., a news release from the Urbana Police Department said.

The man displayed a firearm and demanded cash from the cashier, who cooperated and provided the suspect with an unknown amount of currency.

The suspect fled the scene on foot to a nearby apartment complex, where he was observed entering a red four-door sedan.

Police officers stopped a vehicle matching the description; however, no arrests have been made as of this time. This investigation is currently ongoing.
