Police identify suspect in Westlake High School threat

WESTLAKE, Ohio (WJW) – Charges are being filed against a Cleveland teen accused of making a threatening call to Westlake High School on Wednesday.

The City of Westlake Police Department alerted the public about the threat Wednesday afternoon. Police say the threat was called into the school.

Within an hour and a half of the threat, Westlake police identified the caller as a 13-year-old from Cleveland. Investigators say the teen didn’t have the means to harm to anyone in the city.

Investigators say the family is working with police and felony charges are being filed in juvenile court.

Students at the high school were being dismissed 30 minutes late due to the incident.

Officers blocked off the high school parking lot, so parents would not be able to pick up kids there.

All other schools in the district will dismiss on time.

“There is absolutely no reason to believe this is a valid threat,” Westlake police said in a social media post.
