Police: Illegal passing caused fatal head-on crash

STREETSBORO, Ohio (WJW) — A head-on crash that killed a 63-year-old Kent man Thursday morning was caused by a driver who crossed a double-yellow line to pass, according to police.

It happened just before 6:30 a.m. on state Route 43, just south of Kennedy Road, according to a Thursday news release from police.

Police arrived at the scene to find two severely damaged sedans blocking both lanes of the road.

The driver whose car was struck, a 63-year-old man from Kent, was transported to a hospital but ultimately died of his injuries, according to the release.

Investigators learned the other driver, a 33-year-old man who was heading north, was illegally passing slower-moving cars and had crossed a double-yellow line while approaching the crest of a hill.
