Police identify victim in Encinitas fatal stabbing as 19-year-old

ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal stabbing over the weekend as a 19-year-old man, while his teen brother is in custody facing homicide charges.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a stabbing Saturday at 10:11 p.m. in the 300 block of Sprucewood Drive in Encinitas.

Upon arrival, deputies report they found a man with a stab wound to his stomach area who later died at the hospital. He has been identified as 19-year-old Miguel Mozo-Hernandez from Encinitas.

The sheriff’s department reports after an autopsy was completed, his cause of death has been ruled a homicide.

Deputies found and arrested the suspect about a half-mile away from the scene Saturday night. According to the sheriff’s department, the victim’s 17-year-old brother is in custody at a juvenile hall facing homicide charges.

A preliminary investigation revealed the brothers had an altercation in the front yard of a home on Sprucewood Drive.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing and say they are working to gather more evidence at this time as the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation.

The sheriff’s department emphasizes that there are no outstanding suspects and no apparent danger to the community.
