Police identify mother, son found with fatal gunshot wounds

Phoenix police have identified the mother and son who they found with gunshot wounds on Dec. 15 after responding to a wellness check call.

Officers had responded to the area of 23rd Avenue and Rose Garden Lane at around 9:30 a.m. when they found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound alongside his mother also suffering from a gunshot wound.

The teenage boy, now identified as 17-year-old Gunther Saline, was pronounced dead at the scene. The mother, now identified as 37-year-old Christina Marie Watson, was transported to a hospital in critical condition but has since died from her injuries, according to a police statement.

The Office of the Medical Examiner is still in the process of conducting their independent investigation into the matter.

No further updates had been released.
