The passenger was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Police did not say how the Ruiz and the 13-year-old knew each other.

Investigators believe Ruiz was traveling westbound on Pine Avenue at a high rate of speed, attempted to make a turn and crashed into a utility pole where the car rolled, according to the news release.

Police still are investigating the crash.
