Police: Homicide victim was shot in chest

SCRANTON — City police say Wednesday morning's homicide victim was shot in the chest, according to charges listed in a sealed criminal complaint.

Rahjuan Marquel Morgan, 24, of Scranton, is charged with criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy in the death of Benjamin Thompson, 36, city police announced in a release Thursday evening.

Two other unidentified men were also involved in the shooting, police said, and arrests are imminent.

At about 11:30 p.m. on May 14, Morgan and the two other men showed up at an agreed-upon location on Lincoln Avenue, for a drug deal with Thompson, according to police.

When Thompson showed up, he was robbed and shot him in the chest, charges state.

Officers responded to a crash along the 1800 block of Jackson Street in Scranton just after midnight on Wednesday morning and found Thompson in a vehicle, unresponsive, police say.

He was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center Emergency Department, where he died soon after, according to Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland.

Morgan remains at Lackawanna County Prison, police said.

Lackwanna County Court of Common Pleas Judge Andy Jarbola ordered the arrest papers sealed "as to not interfere with additional evidence gathering activities" by police.
