Police: Dunmore man struck father, 80

Jul. 19—A Dunmore man punched his 80-year-old father in his groin, borough police said.

Robert Marichak Jr., 49, is charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. Slurring and smelling of alcohol, Marichak denied the allegations, according to a criminal complaint filed by Officer Stephon Burgette.

Borough officers responded to Marichak's home, 1323 Madison Ave., several times in recent days. They did so again at 3:14 p.m. Tuesday.

His father, Robert Marichak Sr., complained to police that his son struck him and bent his arms behind his head.

Police arrested his son and contacted his Lackawanna County probation officer. Drinking alcohol is a violation of the terms set when he was sentenced in January 2022, to three months of jail and 33 months of probation for terroristic threats.

Magisterial District Judge John P. Pesota set his bail at $8,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing Aug. 1.
