Police at Dulles airport find 53 pounds of marijuana in woman’s suitcase

STERLING, Va. (DC News Now) — Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority Police (MWAA) officers arrested a Maryland woman Tuesday after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found more than 53 pounds of marijuana in her checked baggage at the Washington Dulles International Airport.

33-year-old Sydney Lewis, of Bryans City, Md.’s bags were being inspected and loaded onto a flight to Paris when CBP officers found 50 vacuum-sealed bags full of suspected marijuana in two suitcases. The officers field-tested it and when it tested positive for marijuana, they turned Lewis over to MWAA.

In total, the marijuana weighed 53 pounds and five ounces and had a street value of around $250,000.

Lewis was charged with felony possession with intent to distribute and transportation and narcotics conspiracy charges.

This was CBP’s third major marijuana seizure and arrest at Dulles in the last month, the news release said.
