Police: Dog bites face of alleged sexual attacker at park in Fort Collins

DENVER (KDVR) — Fort Collins police said a man tried to sexually assault a woman at a park and was bit in the face by a dog, with authorities later taking the man into custody.

Police said a woman was “crying and telling a male to get off of her” when she called 911 Sunday evening, according to a release from Fort Collins Police Services.

Dispatchers used her phone’s location to send officers to Lee Martinez Park, located at 600 N. Sherwood St. When officers found the woman near the center of the park, she pointed out a man walking behind her.

The woman reported that the man had attacked her, and she fought him off for 20 minutes to prevent a sexual assault. According to police, a dog helped her in the fight by biting the man in the face.

The man, identified as 39-year-old Seth Estabrooks, was taken into custody without incident and booked on the following counts:

  • Second-degree assault strangulation

  • Unlawful sexual contact with force or threat

  • False imprisonment by force

Police said the woman had no relationship with Estabrooks, whom police described as “a transient from Boulder.”

The woman got medical support and a Patrol Crime Scene Investigator processed the suspect at the hospital, where he was treated for the dog bites.
