Police: Danville man was found asleep in Beiter's, arrested on burglary and criminal trespass

Apr. 11—DANVILLE — A Danville man faces burglary and other charges after police found him asleep Monday in a back room at Beiter's Department Store on Mill Street.

Keith Reibsome, 59, faces three felony charges including burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief as well as a misdemeanor charge of possessing instruments of crime with intent.

Police said they responded to a call Monday morning at around 9 a.m. when Beiter's staff reported noticing strange things that they knew were not left as they were when the store was closed for the weekend.

The staff saw a light on that they knew had been turned off. In the main office in the basement, a chair was pulled out and two phones had been turned upside down with a phone lying on the back of them. The phone lines were cut with something sharp and a padlock on a door was missing, according to police.

Officers said they did not see any areas of forced entry. They confirmed the things that had concerned employees, though noted nothing had been stolen and two safes were secured and had not been tampered with.

As police discussed the situation, a Beiter's employee ran up to them claiming she found a male sleeping in the back room, according to court documents.

Police said they saw a male asleep on the floor with a hood up. They approached the man and saw a blue ski mask on the floor as well as two knives on a shelf, police said.

Officers woke the man up and he identified himself as Reibsome. When police asked Reibsome where he was, he stated he was at home, court documents said.

Reibsome was placed into custody and searched for weapons. Officers said they found a cigarette carton with multiple buds of raw marijuana as well as one bud of raw marijuana in a red bag.

Reibsome was arraigned by Montour County District Judge William Wilt on Monday and was placed in Montour County Prison in lieu of a $50,000 monetary bail.

Reibsome is scheduled to appear in front of Wilt for a preliminary hearing on April 17.
