Police chase through Luzerne County ends in crash

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A driver allegedly led police on a chase through multiple sections of Luzerne County that eventually ended when he crashed into a tree.

According to the Kingston Police Department, around 3:00 a.m. Thursday, officers spotted a car, driven by Ronald Martin, 33, of Hanover Township, with an expired registration at the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and Pierce Street.

Police said they tried to pull over Martin, however, he fled on Route 11 into Edwardsville, Larksville, and Plymouth. While driving through Larksville officers say Martin drove into a Luzerne Borough police cruiser and continued to flee through stop signs and red lights.

Once Martin got into Jackson Township police were waiting and deployed spike strips that hit his tries causing Martin to lose control and smash his car into a tree in Dallas Township, as stated in the affidavit.

Martin is charged with the following;

  • Aggravated assault

  • Fleeing police

  • Reckless driving

  • Driving with an expired registration

  • Traffic violations

Martin was sent to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a $20,000 bail.
