1 dead, 2 injured in Uniontown shooting

One person was killed and two others injured in a late-night shooting Sunday in Uniontown, following what police said was an argument that quickly escalated.

The shooting took place around 10 p.m. at the Something Different restaurant along Austin Street, according to police documents.

“The information that we gathered was there was an argument that started inside the restaurant,” Lt. Tom Kolencik of the Uniontown Police Department told Channel 11. “The owner told them to leave. It was three people. Witness accounts say once outside, Andrew Howard brandished a firearm and fired multiple shots.”

First responders found a woman with a gunshot wound to her torso. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later. She was later identified as Shaquisa Sims, 32, of Uniontown.

Another woman and Howard arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds.

“That’s what we’re still trying to figure out is how our shooter was also shot. We don’t know if that was from someone else, or he accidentally shot himself. That’s something we’re still investigating,” said Kolencik.

Howard was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for further treatment, police said. He was discharged and placed in custody of Morgantown police.

The condition of the other woman was not immediately known.

Howard is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and gun violations.

Investigators couldn’t provide Channel 11 with any surveillance video from the incident but tell us the investigation is ongoing and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

“In this case, the community was very helpful,” Kolencik said. “I always say that about the people of Uniontown — they always are. Everybody comes forward. That’s never a problem.”

Howard waived extradition and was brought back to Pennsylvania to be arraigned. He’s now in the Fayette County Prison on no bond.
