Police: Bear wanders out of Ludington

LUDINGTON, Mich. (WOOD) — Police in Ludington warned the public to stay away after a black bear was spotted wandering through town Thursday.

The Ludington Police Department said it responded in the morning to a report of the bear in the area of Tinkham Avenue and N Sherman Street, near the Ludington School Forest Trails. Officers confirmed there was a bear.

9&10 News out of Cadillac obtained video of the bear running through town.

Around 8:20 a.m., police said the bear was in the area of Staffon Street and Mitchell Street. The public was asked to be careful and “give the bear some space.”

By around noon, it had wandered out of the city and back into the wild where it belongs, police confirmed to News 8.

Bears who make their way into cities are often young males looking for food. They tend to avoid people and won’t attack unless they feel threatened.
